World Liberty Financial, a decentralized finance project tied to the Trump family, will unlock 20% of its tokens for trading on Sept. 1, 2025, according to an Aug. 23 announcement on X. The move marks WLFI’s shift from a governance-only asset to a fully tradable token on Ethereum (ETH).
Token unlock and Lockbox system
Early backers who participated in the $0.015 and $0.05 presale rounds can claim 20% of their allocations, about 5% of the 100 billion total supply. The remaining 80% will be subject to a governance vote, giving the WLFI community control over future releases. Tokens held by the team, founders, and advisors remain locked.
To claim tokens, investors must activate WLFI’s Lockbox, an audited smart contract by Cyfrin that securely manages unlocks. The Lockbox went live Aug. 25, offering users a week to activate before trading begins on Sept. 1.
Market outlook and exchange listings
WLFI tokens will debut on Ethereum-based decentralized exchanges such as Uniswap (UNI), with major centralized exchange listings, including Binance, Bybit, and OKX, expected to follow. Futures markets already price WLFI between $0.40 and $0.42, suggesting a fully diluted valuation of more than $40 billion.
Pre-sale demand for the project was high, with over 85,000 wallets contributing an estimated $550 million to $2.26 billion. Though there may be significant volatility due to thin liquidity, some analysts predict that WLFI could reach $1 after launch.
Community and political context
With token holders voting on unlock schedules, treasury decisions, and future projects, WLFI’s roadmap heavily emphasizes community governance. In a July vote, 99.94% of voters approved tradability.
However, the Trump connection has drawn political attention, with critics pointing to potential conflicts of interest, particularly following the passage of the GENIUS Act. Regulatory pressure remains a wild card for WLFI’s long-term prospects.
